26 – Follow up

A lot has happened in the last 2 weeks,  and regret not writing a post last week.

Follow ups are important when there is something you want or need.  Here are some follow ups on the things I have been working on in the last weeks and blogs I wrote.

Job applications, visits on some project with Shawn.

And finally assisted at my very first Real Estate Investment Organization meeting here in Moncton. And it was FREE!

Follow up on job interviews

In the last two weeks, I had continue my job search.  I kept looking in the same engine site most popular in my area which is Indeed.ca

There’s not much new job listing in September.  My theory is that they are looking to fill in the positions in August before the student depart for school in September. So most jobs are fulfilled.

I still follow up and look for new job postings every 2 or 3 days.

Among the listing of jobs, a well known engineering firm had been posting multiple post. I have sent out my resume.  Let’s be honest, I didn’t pursue wanting a follow up, I no longer want to be in an office or cubical for 40hrs per week anyways! therefor I was not upset to not have a reply back!

I’ve applied for other jobs that I truly didn’t qualify.  The job just looked different from what I’ve been doing and was curious.  Of course I wouldn’t hear back from them.

Then an amazing job showed up on my list!

The title alone was calling me.  It was in my field of work.  I qualified for every requirement they were looking for.  And it wasn’t’ a 40hr indoor job!

Building Inspector for the Province!

50% indoors/50% outdoors.

Salary is in my range.  I can also negotiate that part.  Benefits.  Vacations.  How could I not apply, follow-up and get that interview lined up!

And that is exactly what happened!

Got a call back for interview.   Honestly, I think I nailed it!

nailed it

The interview was just yesterday.  I was confident, comfortable and honest.  I was interviewed by two gentlemen, with their list of questions.  The questions where not difficult, they were very job orientated and I honestly feel like I did 100% on it!

I too had my chance to ask questions.  After all an interview goes both ways.

Stepping out of the meeting room, I walked my way out of the office only to encounter one my competition for the job.  He was  leaning forward a little on his chair, elbows on his knees, hand locked together in front of him, looking down at the floor, one of his legs was rapidly twitching up and down.  Pour guys looked so nervous!

I smiled at him, politely said hello and wished him good luck.

Walking out of the building, I had never felt so confident in the last 3 years.

As I sat in my car, I suddenly had one concern.  Assuming I get a call back and they offer me the job.  What do I tell Shawn?

Visiting projects

Since my first visit with Shawn, talked in my previous blog, I only got a few tasks to do for him.

He had unfortunately been broken into one of he’s project.  The thieves cut many electrical wires and cooper piping from the basement.  My task was to get electricians and plumber in and be able to have a quote for our insurance to cover some if not all of the cost repair damaged by the thieves.

renovation

He got me to visit a second property of his.  This time it  was a 2 story house, with an extended building that was used as a garage.

The garage was sitting on blocks of wood.  Under the enounce of pressure, the blocks had been crushed and the crushed stone that it was sitting on had slide down the little hill.  The structure simply needs to be lifting up and leveled.

I took the proper measurement, drew him a plan, with procedure to how to get around lifting a building and gave him a list of material required.  He seemed pleased, didn’t tell me otherwise and have not heard back from the results.

A few days after, we met at a few other projects.  He made me write down a few material he required and asked me to get him a quote for all these material listing.    He has a background in Electrical.  Some of the stuff he was asking for I was literally clueless and he had to explain to me a few things.  I took the list and went to Home Depot for some help in finding the right product for the job, and listed the price for each item.

Small tasks.  Not enough to get me going or fulfill my desire or need in helping him much.

I think I will need to chase my desire to work with him more, initiate some tasks and invite myself on some projects without him asking me to go.

Networking

Finally!  I was able to meet other investors face to face!

I had joined a local Real Estate Investors group on facebook, and I was so pleased to know they were going to start monthly meetings again since the pandemic.  And for FREE!

I was nervous going in alone so I asked my boyfriend if he could join me.  He’s not interested in my business much, I was pleased that he wanted to support me and tagged along.

Sarah Long was the speaker of the evening.  She introduced herself and her business.  I saw me  in ten years from now!

She had multiple rental properties, duplexes, building apartments.  She talked about flipping houses and how she connected with Investors and be able to sign Joint Ventures contract with them.  The group started asking her question in which she was answering all of them with honesty and loyalty.

She became an idol to me in one single night.

Even my boyfriend was interested in her speech as we both renting rooms in our homes, and we purchased a cottage that we plan on being able to rent out during beach season!

Sarah was a real inspirational speaker!

After the presentation, I was hoping to mingle with others in the group, I had met a few, but didn’t get the chance to talk to all of them.

I was able to send out friend request on my facebook to some of them and grow my network.

follow up
